Papers

Hey. Sorry everyone that I didnt post yesterday! Im here now, no need to worry!! Just kidding!! Anyways, on with the lesson. Today in my class, everyone got 2 different sheets of paper. One of them was one where it had some paragraphs on it and you read them. But let me get deeper than that. The page with the paragraphs was about force and motion. We learned that the unit of measurement for force is newtons names after Isacc Newton. The other sheet of paper had pictures of boxes on it. 3 boxes to be persise. We learned how to measure the force being put on the box. Like 30N to the left and 10N to the left. The way you do that problem is by adding 30 + 10 which equals to 40 so your answer would be 40N. You added because they were going the same way. If you have a problem with the numbers going opposite ( right and left) then you subtract. For example: if you have 20N going left and 10N going right you would subtract 10 from 20 and you get 10N. Its alot easier to understand when you hear the lesson from Ms. Isbell. Well that was our day!!

Energy Video

Today in Science, we watched a video about the different kinds of energy. Then Mrs. Isbell gave us a sheet with questions. The video was interesting except for the annoying BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP!!!

P.S. Don't forget about the Energy Sources Project! Due: December 5

Thursday, November 29, 2007

Today in science class,we turned in our bar graph worksheet. We also started "Aliens in the Deep." We got to see weird creatures never seen before. I won't tell you all of the movie because then that would ruin it. We also have started a project over energy. The project is due December 5, 2007.

Don't forget about the Project!

Bar Graphs

Today in science class, we finished our double bar graphs (even though it was homework). The other who were finished, got to watch some more of the movie, "Aliens of the Deep". Today, we got to some really cool parts. I wont tell what we saw though because it was really cool!!!!! Im sure all of you will be able to see it. Some of the students who were done helped the others instead of watching the movie. They still got to see the cool parts though.

HOMEWORK: PROJECT DUE TOMORROW!!!!!

For those of you who forgot about it, you are supposed to make a brochure about any type of energy we have been talking about. The energies are: Solar, fossil fuels ( coal, natural gas, oil), nuclear, wind, biomass, hydropower, geothermal. Coal, natural gas, and oil are all counted. So thats eleven enegies to choose from!!! Its not that hard.

It's not my turn again, but I'll help post.

Today in science, we started a movie called Aliens of the Deep. We did not finish the movie. There were two different versions: Theatrical and Extended. Our class chose Theatrical because we didn't want to hear "boring" stuff about how the movie was created and "blah blah blah".

Reminder: Jeremy Fink Project Chapters 1-3 Due TOMORROW. Post a comment and reply to 2 other comments.

Consuption Graphs

Hey everybody!! Today in science class we started a bar graph with the table we copied in our spirals. Actually, it was a double bar graph. We learned the 2 different axis'. There is the x axis and the y axis. By the way, the double bar graph is homework tonight!!! Besides us starting the double bar graphs, we started the movie "Aliens of the Deep". The class had to decide the way it would be shown, either theatrical or extended. Our class chose extended. It was really cool so far. Now lets look at what we have for homework tonight:

Homework: Finishing the double bar graph
Project- Energy Sources

DO NOT FORGET TO DO THE HOMEWORK!!!

For those of you who get confused about the wiki and the blog this is the blog. The wiki address is http://sciencetutorials.wikispaces.com/ I tried to make it into a link. If you want to to play some games on Mrs Isbell's sight you go to http://www.quia.com/pages/rms6science.html again I tried to make it a link!!
The blog adress is http://isbellscience.blogspot.com/ again about the link.

Energy Consumption

Ok i know my turn isn't today, but I'm going to post anyway. We talked about energy consumption through 11 months at ABC Middle School. We copied the chart Diacab left on here and put the data in our spirals.

Reminder: We have the bar graph homework today, due tomorrow!!!

See you in school!

Energy Consumption of ABC Middle School

Today in science class we talked about energy consumption. We copied down a chart that Mrs.Isbell showed us. We use electricity more in the summer because we use the air conditioner. We use natural gas in the winter because we use heaters.

Date electrical costs$ natural gas costs$ total energy costs$
Sept 11,900 275 12,175
Oct 8,900 300 9,200
Nov 9,050 475 9,325
Dec 7,050 725 7,775
Jan 6,250 860 7,110
Feb 6,300 425 6,725
March 7,350 350 7,700
April 9,100 325 9,425
May 9,500 340 9,840
June 8,600 125 8,725
July 5,400 125 5,525
That ends what we learned tocay

Electricity

Tuesday, November 27

Ok i know it is not my turn I'm just being safe so we get something for today.
In Mrs. Isbell's class today we finished up our chart.
There were some things I was totally stunned!!!
I never knew Nuclear power was so popular!!!It was #2!!!!! I also thought since we have sunshine pretty much 24 7 ALL 365 days of the year!!!But solar power and wind power are not popular. I can't believe it!!!!

- Okay that wraps up todays lesson-

Energy Consuption

Today in science class we talked about energy consuption. Before we could even learn that, we had to learn what the word consuption means. We learned that it means using. So after we learned that we copied a table into our green journals and labeled it Energy Consuption of ABC Middle School. The four columns were date, electrical costs $, natural gas costs $, total amount $. And all together we had 13 rows in that table. So for homework tonight, we have to finish this table by adding the total in one date and the total in electrical costs and natural gas costs together for the totals. So we would add all of the electrical costs that were in the second column and then add the natural gas costs to put the total in the last row. I know I probably didn't explain it the best but thats what we did. Do not forget that we all have that PROJECT due Friday!! Hope you all enjoyed today's lesson!!

Energy causes and more

Today in science class, we learned about energy, causes, and more. All the students have a green spiral for science. Today we finished page 18. On that page everyone copied a table talking about biomass, fossil fuels, geothermal energy, hydropower, nuclear, solar and wind energies. Each of them had a description (what they use). We all had to rank what we think they would really rank in the US before we could see the real results. Some of these results were very suprising. Solar had a ranking of 6 and wind had a ranking of 7. This was very suprising because solar and wind energies are free!! But out of this whole day many suprises popped up including the new class pet. I learned many facts that I did not know. Believe it or not but I did not know that wind was actually just moving air. I had never thought about it. Science was fun and suprising today. Who knows what will pop up next!!

Energy Sources pg.18

Today in science we talked about Energy Sources. We are now on page 18 in our science journals. We defined words in different types of energy that explains what the energy is. We copied down a chart that Ms. Isbell gave us to help us understand the different energy sources. This is a summary of the chart we did in class:

Energy Sources Used to Generate Electricity in the U.S.

Biomass-Uses wood, crops, or other organic material bio=life
Fossil Fuels-Uses coal, oil, and natural gas CON
Geothermal Heat-Uses thermal energy found inside the earth geo=Earth
Hydropower-Uses the energy of moving water-Hydro
Nuclear-Uses radioactive substances such as uranium
Solar-Uses energy directly from the Sun
Wind-Uses energy from moving air

There are three parts we have not finished in class: Your Rank, Pair Rank, and Actual Rank.

-Well that wraps up today's lesson-

How to Use Science Today

Welcome to Science Today. This blog is a summary of the learning happening in Ms. Isbell's sixth-grade science class. If today is your day to summarize what we have learned, be sure to give lots of details, but without being too wordy. Feel free to use pictures, videos, etc., if they help you tell the story of today's science lesson.
